Roadtesting Trends: The Harem Pant

harem copy

It's so easy to get caught up in your own fashion fantasy, especially when you're logged onto a computer for most of your waking hours and see pictures of hot girls wearing things like this and this, then go shopping with equally as delusional people who say things like "yes of course those pants are versatile!" and then step out into the real world with all the starry-eyed sartorial ambition you can muster and immediately encounter a fellow classmate who asks you which corporate MC Hammer position you're interviewing for. Ouch. But just you wait you drab-derrièred folk--give it a year (or two) and the rice-patty pant is going to be all the rage. Make sure to pair them with something a little sexy on top and keep your shoes high (to downplay the masculinity of the pants).

totally cute, dont let anyone tell you different

they look cute on YOU but not the girls you referenced. i think you could do it with a simple neutral flat and get away with it, but withhold aladdin shoes for fear of looking like... aladdin.

I love the harem pants. I have me some Dries ones similar to these but without the belt. Very sweet with the top - you look excellent!

Those pants look really good on you, but I think the pants themselves are kind of ugly. I can see them on Sarah Jessica Parker though, they are that type of pant, very fashion forward, but my friends would prob laugh at me if I wore them.

You look great in them. Technically, you can pull this look off well if you:

a)are tall - because of where these pants are cropped above the ankle they may visually cut you off and make you look shorter.

b)have a boyish shape - girls like me who have a larger hips and butt will only look bigger in these but for smaller girls they would work fine.

c)keep the rest of the outfit simple, for obvious reasons. I'm not one for circus chic.

That's just my opinion but some girls may be able to work it despite this.

i have these pants. they are awesome.

danz- i am neither tall nor do i have a boysish shape (i have pretty wide hips/butt) and i get complements every time i wear these. i think it has more to do with how you wear them, not your body type. clothing with interesting/unique cuts is not just made for the tall and skinny!

Hmm I dunno, I think this is a case of looks good in theory, but not in reality. The belt is nice though and it certainly does make your waist look tiny!
